just exactly what aspect am i missing. i didnt miss the fact there was more variety. sorry if i made that seem so. it was never about variety, but what the costs will be after this happens and how bad it will be on the casual players. and im far from a casual player my self

It won't be bad for casual players though, unless the prices for weapons sky-rocket. Casual players can save plenty of gold through questing and selling whites to the merchant, it will be even better for casual players when those elusive items become affordable for them.
How are cheaper prices bad for casual players?

just remember, Heroes need equipment!
more demmand will lead to higher prices. the new salvage option might bring down prices of 100k+ items, but the demand might just be high enough to generate a market for below 1k items, effectively leading to rising (yet cheap) prices.

It's a pretty broad generalization to imply that people who only play a little do not care about having cool-looking weapons. I disagree. Playing all day every day doesn't magically create appreciation for nice-looking gear, and only playing casually doesn't drain one's sense of style.

I personally think there's more of the first group, the ones who don't enjoy the market aspect at all.
|
I think you're right. And now those people in the first group will be able to get any skinned weapon that they fancy, and still have it be as effective as the "ugly" skins that don't sell for mass platinum stacks. "I think a golden phoenix blade would look really good on my warrior, I think I'll pick one up" would be something that a "casual" gamer would be able to say, knowing that the GPB that he goes out and gets will still be as effective as the dadao sword that the collectors offer. How awesome is that?

Hey man, just because I'm a GW addict doesn't mean that I can't stick up for the kids that aren't, .
Besides, I'm not super-rich and I can't go out and impulse-buy really pretty weapons. I like impulse-buying things, and I like super pretty weapons. Just think how happy Gosu will be when I tell her she can get any darn type of weapon she wants for dirt cheap. Homegirl's going to go nuts!
And again, the only "rare" skins in the game are crystalline swords and dwarven axes. Every other skin can be easily dropped by just normal gameplay, but they all suck because they don't have max (or any) mods. The "rare" part comes in finding a combination of the two. FINDING that combination. Building that combination will not be rare at all. Which leads me to the best point that I can make here:
Item collectors, look at the bright side: When you put a perfect sundering and a perfect fortitude mod on a white weapon, it turns blue. I'm betting that inscriptions will be the same. So everyone that sees my soon-to-be-made 15^50 gothic dual axe in a trade window will know that it's not "godly" because it's blue, and not gold. Do I care? No. Would an item collector care? Yeah, I bet he would.
So Milias, your "stamp collection" won't be affected, because your stamps are gold, and my stamps would be blue. Your stamps would still be rare, and my stamps would be common, customized, and blood-stained. And we both win.
Collectors would be able still collect rare weapons, they just won't be able to sell those rare weapons to anyone other than other collectors. Normal folks like me would just go make blue 15^50 GPB's and swing them merrily at our foes, while collectors will wheel and deel for gold ones to put on their mules.
Peace, Kanwulf. We miss ya, bro. <3

Bleh, if style is so important, there are many nice looking green weapons availible. Hell, greens even have UNIQUE skins like kanaxai's axe.

If you want to be unique, this will give you more options. Go find a skin that you don't see many people using and go mod it to meet your specs.

This update will once again set things right making FoW armor the most desirable high end ingame possession. This is how it should be.

At this point, I really wish someone from ANet/NCSoft would help clear up any confusion stemming from this, and set the record straight. Right now, we're just talking in terms of hypotheticals, would be nice to have something concrete.

For once, I agree with you milias. Right now it's impossible to argue, since we really don't know how Inscriptions will work.
Still, I like this point:

After going through all of these posts and reading everyone's points of view now more than ever I am sure we need this update. Those who oppose this update and claim they will quit are playing for the wrong reasons. If you are willing to hold ANet hostage over this update claiming you will quit if they don't meet your demands then that is REALLY sad. I am not going to name names, but you know who you are. This update will be welcomed by an enormous percentage of the Guild Wars community. It will open new markets and make available items to people who previously could never acquire them. It will finally make rare armors become the ultimate vanity item the way it should be.
ANet I am not pushing you either way on this. I am not holding you hostage on this update. I believe it will be a very welcome change at a time in the game when it is needed. I hope you implement these changes, but I am not demanding it. I will stand by you in whatever decision you end up making on this.
I realize that this post will probably piss off a few of the regular posters who are opposing this update, but I really don't care and I will not respond to anymore "points" you want to try and make. There really is not a down side in any way for this update. Nothing but positive outcomes will come of this even if some of you will leave. If you leave over this update then good riddance no one will miss you and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

erm... I have a question please and dont get me wrong.
But if I bought a req 8 crystalline (gold) with no inherent mod, and lets say would cost me about 100k and some ectos...
When nightfall comes out could I mod it with a 15^50?
Ok now that you thought about that ...
See gold rare weapons economy dropping really low ? hehe If that happens then your perfect zodiac and brute will be worth nothing!!!
Guildwars Nightfall ftw or not ?
EDIT: oops forgot to put my opinion in post. I DONT AGREE WITH THIS, I did not spend countless hours farming for everyone to be able to get the same reward that I and other people who worked had got, These weapons and skins are what lots of peoples idea of fun play, the challenge of aquiring these. So after the update, everyone who didnt do anything to deserve them will have a chance of having them? ehem.... Right,
Player1: I played guildwars for 8 months, thats how I got this weapon
Player2: Oh really, I bought game yestarday and i already got this...

mm I think a lot of people care. Like I said, Lots of people spend Countless of hours farming for a good weapon, and now it seems like it was all a waste of time, All we are going to get is New cocky players who will assume they are leet cuz they have the same weapon as a person that been playing for a year?

I agree. RPG games are about a sense of accomplishment. You take that away, people will walk away with it.

I AGREE
i play this *GAME* if, as, and when i want to and if the cat wakes up and wants some patting he gets it.
my character onscreen lives oe dies as i turn of the sound and find out later what happened to her and her henchies.
the cat is real the game is not.
that is the relative importance of a *game* to me
i play for the fun og it not to impress people, and most certainly to show off a few pixels i farmed 10 hours a day to show i am better than you.
speaking of cats that goes for forums as well back ina bit
